An OS kernel written from scratch in Rust that speaks the Linux ABI and runs unmodified Linux binaries. These are recordings of its serial console; the player is asciinema-player, served from this repository, and the casts are the files in it.
The kernel boots a BusyBox initramfs under QEMU and a shell script runs live on its console: the Linux ABI, unmodified musl and Go binaries, processes and signals, an ext2 disk on virtio-blk that persists across boots, namespaces and a cgroup OOM kill, and its own TCP/IP stack serving HTTP to the host. Press play; the text is selectable.
Recorded under QEMU TCG (no KVM) in a 4-vCPU container; idle gaps are capped at 2 s. tour.cast
A real kube-apiserver and kube-scheduler place a Deployment (replicas=2) on a node whose kubelet and CRI-O run both pods; a real kube-proxy programs their ClusterIP Service into the kernel's own netfilter; 24 requests to the ClusterIP come back 200 OK through the kernel's DNAT, hairpin and conntrack datapath. Stock Debian 13 and upstream Kubernetes binaries; only the kernel is new.
Recorded on a KVM host running the control plane; the minutes the pods take to schedule are compressed by the 3 s idle cap. kubernetes.cast
